Panini, known for its popular sports trading cards, is delving into the realm of golf with a groundbreaking new partnership. In a strategic move announced on Thursday, the company has sealed an exclusive deal with LIV Golf, expanding its sports trading card portfolio. While Panini’s history with golf cards traces back to the Donruss brand cards of the early ’80s, this collaboration signifies a fresh endeavor since Panini acquired Donruss.
This newly minted partnership grants Panini exclusive rights to craft and distribute trading cards featuring the talented players of LIV Golf. The venture aims to bring something distinct to fans and collectors worldwide by introducing an entirely new line of golf trading card products. The offerings will include physical trading cards, featuring match-worn memorabilia, player autographs, and more. Notably, the initial wave of LIV Golf trading cards will be launched under Panini’s Prizm and Impeccable brands. Additionally, the real-time Panini Instant card program will capture highlights and memorable moments from tournaments and seasons, alongside exclusive LIV Golf Team sets.
LIV Golf, a tour established in 2022 with backing from Saudi Arabia, boasts an esteemed roster of 54 players committed for 2024. With a majority of its 14 tour stops outside the U.S. and a unique team element in its 54-hole tournaments, LIV Golf is set to revolutionize the sport. Panini has wasted no time in promoting the 2024 LIV team sets on its website, signaling the swift progress of this collaboration.
Greg Norman, Commissioner and CEO of LIV Golf, expressed his excitement for the partnership with Panini. He emphasized the opportunity to introduce innovative products to a global audience of fans and collectors, aiming to elevate the profiles of LIV Golf players and teams in the collectibles space. This sentiment was mirrored by Majesticks GC co-captain Ian Poulter, who shared his enthusiasm for aligning with a leading trading card brand.
Mark Warsop, CEO of Panini America, highlighted the distinctive and innovative format of LIV Golf as a pivotal factor in forging this partnership. He believes that the team and league structure of LIV Golf presents new aspects of collectability for fans. Warsop views LIV Golf’s appeal to younger audiences and its roster of top-tier players as a perfect match for Panini, setting the stage for a fruitful collaboration and the cultivation of a strong fan base.
As Panini gears up to launch this exciting new line of golf trading cards, LIV Golf features a lineup of prominent players, including major championship winners and golf legends. This promises an enticing product offering for golf enthusiasts and collectors alike. The partnership with LIV Golf comes amid Upper Deck’s upcoming release of a golf set featuring PGA Tour stars, underscoring the growing interest in golf memorabilia and trading cards.
